The following are skills which can be used in the Palladium RPG system and
are introduced here at Robotech Research. The skill category is listed in
italics along with the date at which the character can learn the skill. No conversion of characters is
necessary before they can learn any of the skills below; any character that can
learn skills from the appropriate category can learn these new skills. Any
O.C.C. bonuses applicable are also valid for these skills. Each skill has
a date which represents the earliest time for which a character may obtain the
skill.

COMMUNICATIONS
- COMMUNICATION HYPERSPACE (Communications - 2010) -
This skill provides the character the ability to operate and maintain
hyperspace communication systems. Although, the focus of the study is
on Southern Cross and REF system, some knowledge pertaining to the operation
and maintenance of alien systems (Tirolian, Invid, and Zentraedi) is
provided. BASE SKILL: 80% +5% per level of experience to
operate UEF systems, (30% +5% per level for alien systems). 40% +4% to
repair UEF systems (20% +3% for alien systems).
MECHANICAL
- MECHA MECHANICS BASIC (Mechanical - 2025)
As the REF's campaign against the Invid continued, planners relaxed the
rules against pilots acquiring the skills to repair their own mecha.
Often, mecha groups were stranded on Invid occupied worlds and the ability
to repair ones own mecha often meant the difference between life or
death. As a result, mecha pilots were allowed to train in the basic
skills of repairing and replacing damaged parts on their mecha.
However, modification of REF mecha is beyond their expertise. BASE SKILL:
20%
+ 5% per level of experience, Southern Cross mecha incur and additional -10% penalty.
PILOT
- MECHA COMBAT INVID (Pilot - 2025) - Pilots are trained in
the use of Invid weaponry. REF intelligence trained a limited number
of operatives in the use of Invid mecha to facilitate incursions into Invid
held territory. This includes the PL-3 and PL-6 plasma rifles found on
the Invid Armored Scout and Shock trooper. However, because the
designs are so foreign no additional attacks nor combat bonuses are given
other than the pilots natural hand to hand abilities.
- PILOT INVID MECHA (Pilot - 2025)
Pilots are trained in the basic operation of piloting Invid Mecha. REF
intelligence trained a limited number of operatives in the use of Invid
mecha to facilitate incursions into Invid held territory. Study
focuses on the Invid Armored Scout and Shock Trooper; however, other designs
may be piloted at -20% penalty. BASE SKILL: 40% + 5% per level of experience.
PILOT RELATED
- NAVIGATION HYPERSPACE (Pilot Related - 2020)
- This skill provides the character the ability to navigate a
starship through hyperspace. NOTE: Advanced Mathematics and Read Sensory
Instruments are necessary to acquire this skill. BASE SKILL: 60% + 5%
per level of experience.
- WEAPON SYSTEMS STARSHIP (Pilot Related - 2010)
This is the complete understanding of the operation and maintenance
of of the weapon systems that are incorporated into starships. This
includes laser and particle cannons, missile launches, and even reflex weaponry.
Characters are primarily trained on shipboard weaponry for the RDF, Southern
Cross, and REF; however, they will understand the basic operations of alien
Starship weaponry. SPECIAL BONUS: +2 to strike, and an
additional +1 for every 3 levels of proficiency.
TECHNICAL
- COMPUTER HACKING (Technical - 1943)
This skill allows the character to break into systems that would
otherwise not allow the characters access. The skill provides the
training for both electronic and mechanical means of entry. NOTE:
Computer Operation and Programming are necessary to acquire this
skill. BASE SKILL: 30% +5% per level of experience.
