It has been a long hard war, over 70% of the number of mecha and fully 50% of the Earth Defense Force personal have been killed in the Second Robotech War.  The players are some of the “lucky” ones, either because they extremely skilled or just happened to be in the right place at the right time.  The characters are now stationed at the RDF Albuquerque base trying to hold back the tide of darkness that seems to engulf the earth.  Over the past several months, the characters have defeated no less than three waves of remnants from the Robotech Masters which have attacked the base in an effort to acquire the remaining supplies of protoculture.  This does not count the number of times that the players have had to defend against malcontent Zentreaedi and humans which patrol around the base like circling vultures.

GM Notes

Although as written, the scenario occurs at the end of the Second Robotech War (2031-2033).  The scenario is written as a mixed Southern Cross and Sentinel campaign; however with little modification it could be modified for exclusive use for one or the other.

Southern Cross Adjustments

The easiest modification is to move the time frame of the scenario up a couple of years so that it coincides with the Second Robotech War.  The players need not return with the SS. Roger Young to warn the REF about the peril that the Armies of the Southern Cross is facing; however, they could be assigned protecting the ship while it is undergoing construction.  Most likely, the SS. Roger Young will be built in the area around Monument city and not in an orbiting shipyard as described in this mission and therefore the scenario would have to be adjusted.

Sentinel Adjustments

Very few adjustments need to occur to allow the scenario to be played entirely as a sentinel campaign.  The GM should delete chapters 1 and 2 and start the campaign from the beginning of chapter three.  The characters will be assigned the mission to Optera either because of their combat experience, their promise as upcoming combat pilots, or because a they are a rogue group that a superior officer wants to rid himself of.
