BACKGROUND
Initial
Robotech Master mecha designs for the Zentraedi were massed produced with little
thought placed in the defensive capabilities of the unit. The Masters
believed that mass quantities of units alone would intimidate most
cultures into submission. As such a majority of the Zentraedi designs were
meant to be easily massed produced with little though placed in the defensive
capabilities of the units.
After the initial battles with the Disciples of Zor and the
continuing conflict with the Invid, the Robotech Masters came to the realization that quality
possesses its own quantity. The Masters had always valued their officers
more than the common soldiers by providing them more advanced and capable mecha
and therefore it was no surprise that the first updates to the Zentraedi arsenal
would be to the officer's mecha.
The first design that was created was the Ex Glaug, or the Enhanced
Officer's Pod. Outwardly, it is similar in appearance to the
standard Glaug; however, the 'Ex' possesses 200% more armor in the legs and main
body. The top mounted particle beam cannon was upgraded to the more
powerful Makral Tszikatro 07 model. The lower arm autocannons were replaced
with two additional Makral Martszur-4 particle beam cannons. This allowed the Ex
Glaug to fire 40 MJ in a combined burst from all four arm mounted
weaponry. The underbody autocannons were replaced with two X'leryt Munta
lasers to be used primarily in an anti-missile/personal role. The
missile load was increased to include 24 short range Maggot
missiles stored in two launchers in the rear of the mecha. Design
simulations showed the the Ex Glaug could destroy any of the Disciple of Zor or
Invid mecha in less than 5 seconds of combined particle bursts.
Some 500 Ex Glaugs were produced and all were placed with the the
Border 27 Reconnaissance Fleet, led by Commander Kergen
Krashavera. Only 47 were destroyed in the 10 years from 2009 when
the fleet was assembled to 2018 when Border 27 entered into the Ebolia
system. In 2019 during the Ebolian War, Earth Defense Forces were
completely taken by surprise by the new Zentraedi designs. None of the
information that the allied Zentraedi provided the EDF indicated that the
Zentraedi possessed such units and the initial skirmishes went badly for the
RDF. However, Krashavera was later killed and the Zentraedi and Ebolian
fleet was eventually destroyed at the price of the near complete destruction of
the remaining allied Zentraedi capital ships and the aging RDF fleet.
Several Ex Glaugs were captured and studied by the REF for possible inclusion in
the expeditionary fleet; however, by 2019 work on the Z-1
and Z-2 battlepods was largely completed
and engineers felt that a micronian version of the Ex Glaug would not be more
effective and therefore dropped.
An RPG supplement for Robotech
Crystal Dreams will be released by Robotech Research in the near future
(estimated release date March 2001)

-
(*) Attackers are -3 to strike
-
(**) Destroying the sensor head of the Ex Glaug will knock out the mecha's major sensor
systems, including all of the optics systems (infrared, nightvision,
thermal) and radar; however, communications will be unaffected.
Attackers are -6 to strike
-
(***) Destroying the engine thrusters will reduce the top
speed of the Ex Glaug by 50% in the atmosphere. Destruction of both
thrusters will cause the mecha to crash in the atmosphere and reduce the pod
to thrusters only in space.
-
(****) Destruction of the main body will destroy the mecha.

found on the Glaug Officer Pod. This weapon is unit to the Ex Glaug
battlepod and can fire particle beam with yields up to 40 MJ out to
10,000m. The weapon is powered directly from the mecha's main
energizers and can fire at up to 20 times per minute.
- PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assault/Defense
- SECONDARY PURPOSE: Anti-mecha
- RANGE: 10000 m
- DAMAGE: 3D6x10
- RATE OF FIRE: Up to 5 times per melee
- PAYLOAD: Unlimited
- 4 x MAKRAL MARTSZUR-4 (PB-10): Four Makral Martszur
particle beam cannons are mounted in both arms of the Ex Glaug. The
lower two cannons replace the venerable, and largely ineffective, Moldile
Lunaditsz 95 autocannons. Each cannon fires 9.5 MJ of particle energy
every second.
- PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assault/Defense
- SECONDARY PURPOSE: Anti-mecha
- RANGE: 1200 m
- DAMAGE: 1D4*10 MDC per single blast
- RATE OF FIRE: Equal to the total number of H-to-H attacks

HAND TO HAND COMBAT:.
- Restrained Punch 1d6*3
- Full Punch: 2d6*3
- Power Punch: 2d6*3+12
- Tear or Pry: 1d6*3
- Kick: 1d6*3
- Leap Kick: 2d6*3
- Body Block/Tackle: 2D6*3.
- Stomp: 1d4*3 MDC (only effective against small objects)
STANDARD EQUIPMENT FOR EX GLAUG:
- COMBAT COMPUTER: The combat computer can identify and track 48 targets.
- X-BANDVBPS2-SS RADAR: The Ex Glaug possesses a short range radar with a range of
200 km
- EXTERNAL AUDIO PICKUP: Range: 300 ft (91.5 m). A sound amplification system that
can pick up normal conversation up to 300 feet away.
- HEAT AND RADIATION SHIELDS: Special shielding prevents the penetration of life
threatening heat and radiation. A radiation detection and alarm system are linked with the
shields and will sound an alarm if there is a rupture in the shields and what the levels
of radiation are.
- LASER TARGETING SYSTEM: Range: 50 miles (160 km). Used for increased accuracy in
the striking of enemy targets and is partly responsible for the mecha's strike bonus.
- LOUDSPEAKER: A loudspeaker system is built into the craft, which can be used to
amplify the pilot's voice up to 90 decibels.
- OPTICS: NIGHTVISION: Range: 2000 feet (610 m). A passive light image intensifier
that emits no light of its own, but relies on ambient light which is electronically
amplified to produce a visible picture.
- OPTICS: THERMAL IMAGER: Range: 2000 feet (610 m). A passive optical heat sensor
that detects infrared radiation projected by warm objects and converts that data into a
false-color visible image. The system enables the pilot to see in the dark, in shadows,
and through smoke, and also adds a +10% bonus to pilots using a tracking skill.
- OPTICS: Telescopic optics (x10 magnification)
- VBPS2-SS: Radar Warning Receiver (RWR)
- VBPS2-SS: Infra-Red Warning Receiver (IRWR)
- RADIO/VIDEO COMMUNICATION: Long range, directional communications system with
satellite relay capabilities. Range: 600 miles (960 km) or can be boosted indefinitely via
satellite relay.
- LOW POWER BROAD BAND SENSOR JAMMER: These systems can be used to jam both sensors
and missiles; however the Zentraedi systems are no where near the effectiveness of the REF
or the Robotech Masters
- VBPS2-SS: Active sensor jammer
- VBPS2-SS: Chaff and flare dispenser, 50 chaff and 50 flares are
stored in each leg.
COMBAT BONUSES FOR EX GLAUG:
- 3 attacks per melee (plus those of the pilot)
- +2 to roll with the punch
- +3 to strike
- +3 to parry
- +4 to dodge
- Critical strike are the same as the pilot's hand to hand
- One additional attack at levels 5 and 10
